April Book Club Selection
This month's selection was made easy for me because of Cathy Bueti, author of "Breastless in the City." Cathy sent me two copies of her book; one for me, one for a reader of The Breast Blog.
I'm giving the second copy to ... hmmmm ... who shall I give it too? I was going to give it to the most active participant in the discussion on "Digging to America," but that would have been me (aren't you sorry you lurked?).
So ... email me or post a comment asap and be entered into a random drawing for the book (to take place by the end of the week). You can always get the book on Amazon; here's a link.
"Breastless in the City" is about Cathy's life. Child of an alcoholic father, she married her high school sweetheart but was widowed at the age of 25. Seven years later, still trying to find her way in life after such a profound loss, she discovers a lump in her breast. Single, bald, breastless ... and that alcoholic father? He becomes one of her biggest supporters.
The back of the books explains that Cathy is stunningly honest and open in this book. She's a real person telling the story of her battle.
I can't wait to get started!

Karen,
I would love to be entered in the raffle for the book. I am a librarian and am sorry I missed the discussion of Anne Tyler's book. I had a mastectomy in 2000 for DCIS. I am feeling a little freaked out by all this cancer recurrence in the news. Do you have any advice on how to stay positive and not get paranoid? Thanks - Chris
I'd love to read Cathy's book too. Thanks for the contest!
Chris, on staying positive ... it's tough, I have to tell you. Fear of recurrence can be debilitating. Seems we're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. My only advice is to honor your doctors appointments and rest assured that if something does come up on a mammogram, it'll be caught early once again, and with good treatment, you'll be past it in no time. You're strong enough to make it though if it ever were to happen again, for sure, because you've been through it once before.
But here's hoping that NEVER happens to you anyway!
