Introduction

Hello world!
Please allow me to introduce myself: I'm a freelance writer and journalist. I have a wonderful husband and three fantastic children. And, I'm a two-time breast cancer survivor.
I was first diagnosed in 2003 with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS); I was 35 years old. I had a partial mastectomy followed by radiation therapy and hormone therapy (I went on Tamoxifen). I was considered cured.
I was diagnosed a second time in 2006 with Stage I, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC); I was 38 years old. I had a double mastectomy and an immediate TRAM flap reconstructive surgery. I began receiving Zolodex shots to put my pre-menopausal body into chemical menopause.
I believe it is my destiny to use my writing abilities to make young women aware of the need for early detection, to strengthen young women who have joined me in the world of survivorship, and to keep young women abreast of pertinent information even after their treatment is over. That's why I created, "The Breast Blog."
If you live in this world of breast cancer, if you are a young survivor like myself, if you are newly diagnosed and scared out of your mind and seeking information ... this is the place for you. I'll keep you informed, as best I can, because information is power. You can't control the cancer within you, but you can control the information you take in to fight it.
God bless!
Karen M. Lynch
